South Korean president says: North Korea is in final stages of developing ICBM capable of hitting U.S

Korean President Lee Jae Myung said Thursday (September 25) that North Korea is in the final stages of developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of carrying a nuclear warhead that could reach the United States. This was reported by the AFP news agency.
Seoul and its Western allies have failed to stop the North’s nuclear weapons program, and Pyongyang has insisted it will not give up its nuclear weapons. Speaking during a visit to the New York Stock Exchange, Lee stressed that “…North Korea continues to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to reach the United States.” He added that North Korea did not appear to have succeeded yet, but they were in the final stages of developing an ICBM.
Since taking office as South Korean president in June, Lee has often spoken of his goal of opening dialogue with North Korea to ease tensions. At the same time, he has estimated that North Korea has enough nuclear material to produce 15 to 20 more nuclear warheads a year.
