(Seoul) – South Korea is preparing to bring back its workers after a raid in the US state of Georgia last week, a presidential official said, as the Trump administration said it would take further action. According to Reuters, on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The South Korean presidential office said on Sunday night that negotiations to release about 300 South Koreans have concluded and the process of releasing them from detention is underway. A chartered plane will bring them back as soon as the process is complete. The workers are likely to board the plane on Wednesday, Yonhap news agency quoted South Korea’s Consul General in Washington, Cho Ki-joong, as saying.
U.S. federal agents have arrested about 475 workers at a Hyundai car battery plant in Ellabell, Georgia, where about 300 South Koreans are. A Department of Homeland Security representative did not respond to a request for comment, while White House spokesman Tom Homan said the raids would be expanded to include workplaces.
